i would never use AI for my actual code. if i do that, the fun part for me is gone entirely. you can use it to explain functions, documentation, etc, but the second it starts spitting out code i'm out. i'd also be ashamed to tell people a project of mine uses AI code. it's a bit like art to me in that regard. i'm not going to generate a watercolor of spider man and hang it on my wall and be proud of it. some people experience great joy finishing a paint by numbers piece, but i wouldn't.
I used to say much of the same things. I don't any longer.
Do we write machine code any more? Assembly language? Almost never. Progammers depend on tools to automate as much of the software development process as possible and generative AI is now just another one of those tools. It's the new normal, at least for professional programming.
