    oops, wrong echo.

I don't mind, it has been the only activity I have seen in this echo for AWHILE..

OK.. will be ontopi for this one..

I just noticed, that when I enable VPN (ProtonVPN) on my phone, and enable hotspot mode, the pc that I link to does NOT use the phone's new IP.

Is there a VPN service that supports mobile hotspotting?

Is there a setting on the VPN software to route ALL traffic through the VPN?

    Hello Rug Rat!

Is there a VPN service that supports mobile hotspotting?

Is there a setting on the VPN software to route ALL traffic through the VPN?

Chatgpt research tells me that ProtonVPN and some other common ones do NOT support mobile hotspot connections for a variety of reasons:

"In most cases regular VPN apps on iPhone or Android do not support routing hotspot traffic through the VPN tunnel - meaning devices that connect to your phone's mobile hotspot won't have that traffic encrypted by the VPN on your phone. That's a limitation of how iOS and Android isolate hotspot/tethering traffic, not a shortcoming of the VPN services themselves.
?? Why Most VPN Apps Don't Support Hotspot VPN

"On Android and iOS, VPN tunnels only encrypt traffic originating from the phone itself. Hotspot/tethered devices' traffic bypasses that tunnel.

"Because of OS network namespaces and security restrictions, the VPN can't "upstream" the hotspot traffic unless you use workarounds like rooting/jailbreaking.

"Most major VPN services (e.g., Proton VPN, Surfshark) confirm this limitation.

However.. the same chatgpt mentioned one that DOES work with mobile hotspot:

    ForestVPN.

A free level offers 2GB data.

I'll give it a go later.
