The people who made MAGA big — Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and Marjorie Taylor Greene — are now turning away from it. It finally seems to be dawning on them that Trump himself is part of “the swamp” and that they have been misled for years.

That does not suddenly make them morally credible. Their worldview remains problematic and harmful. But after years of denial, they now at least acknowledge that they were lied to.

They accepted everything: his behavior, his scandals, even after countless convictions. Apparently, an overwhelming amount of evidence was needed before doubt arose. And even now, it is uncertain how deep that doubt runs — if it suits them, they can rally behind him just as quickly.

Child abuse, sexual violence, the separation of families, violence against protesters, an attempted coup, arbitrary arrests of people who look “foreign,” structural corruption — none of that was a breaking point for them. They deliberately looked away. Only when a core promise — no new wars in the Middle East — was visibly broken did things begin to shift.

They remain controversial figures. But the fact that they are now, finally, pushing back is significant in itself. It may cause a part of their support base to doubt and weaken the blind loyalty to Trump and his circle.
